RALSD’s Artist’s Toolbox is an ongoing way for us to connect, not only with each other, but with artists of all types: from fine arts to performing arts to visual arts, and more. With the artist’s toolbox, we mean to present interviews with local San Diego artists and teachers, as well as highlight small businesses throughout the county. Zack J. King
Zack J. King is a dancer and choreographer whose style is heavily influenced by both hip-hop and modern dance. He is interested in the investigation of how the two styles can coexist and what can be created from the merger. After his first year in college he made the decision to pursue dance as a professional career. Less than a year later Zack was introduced to transcenDANCE by friend and choreographer, Seiha Vor. He has trained and performed under multiple artists and teachers in San Diego including Tery Wilson, Angel and Jaami Walli-Villalobos, Grace Jun, Anthony C. Cole, Debi Toth, Angela Moran, & Tonnie Sommerartano. Zack is finishing his schooling at San Diego City College and plans on transferring to SDSU to obtain his BFA.
Alex “Foxine Jay” (Featured in our Artist’s Tool Box! Read their interview here: https://www.risingartsleadersofsandiego.org/2020/04/24/foxine-jay/)
Born and raised in Portland, Maine and a transplant to San Diego in order to attend SDSU in 2006, Alex has been here ever since. Visually she creates under the name Foxine Jay. She creates bright and surreal double exposure images from collage to painting, and even molding little clay sculptures that are featured on some of her paintings. Alex is also a musician. She has been playing in San Diego bands since 2008. In her first band, an all-girl riot-grrrl band called Mermaid, Alex was the drummer. After some exploration, she then moved on to writing and producing her own music under the name: ALX.
